Hey there

Im setting up my first private ESXi for testing purposes..

I have installed ESXi 6.7.0U3 (Build 15160138) with a custom ISO (Realtek driver)..

I'm now getting this message:

and I am honestly not sure what I have to do now.. I've read through the article but I have no clue how to update or if I even have to? (6.7.0U3 is pretty new compared to the CVE.. isn't this fix already integrated in this version?)

Would be happy about some help

ESXi 6.7 Change megaraid_sas to lsi_mr3

I have 6 hosts with LSI 9260 RAID cards

They are all using the megaraid_sas driver (6.603.55.00.2)

The megaraid_sas driver is deprecated in 6.7

How do I get the LSI card to use the built-in ESXi LSI_MR3 driver instead

Hello,

any information will be greatly appreciated:

I have 6.5 and 6.7 ESXi standalone (working a few hours a day), shutdown button in web, ssh or console sometimes causes reboot instead of shutdown.

Guests are stopped, host is in maintenance mode.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

ESXI host is disconnected.

My environment in esxi 6.7 and vcenter 6.7

I recently noted an ESXi host in my vCenter environment had a warning (not responding).  The event log shows Error Cannot synchronize host.  I also cannot login to the host using the vSphere client or web client using the root login.

In the event log i have found :

Alarm 'Host hardware sensor state' on

triggered by event 402334117 'Sensor -1 type , Description Intel Corporation Xeon E7 v3/Xeon E5 v3/Core i7 DMA Channel 0 #4 state assert for . Part Name/Number N/A N/A Manufacturer N/A'

It should also be noted that I can login to the host directly via KVM and access the Shell.

However, the KVM access runs extremely slow, i have must to wait to enable ssh for a few time.

This is was happened on time, then services.sh restart helps me.

Could you help me find the cause of this problem?

ESXi 6.7 U3 installation from PXE server using iPXE

$

Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the process of setting up a PXE server for installation of multiple linux distrons including ESXi 6.7. The server is set up to serve Legacy as well as UEFI installations.

Thanks to multiple guides I could find on the internet, including vmware.com, I could set up the server and the ESXi Legacy installation runs fine. However, there are 2 issues, I simply cannot find an answer for:

Legacy Boot:

Everytime I load the mboot.c32 I receive the message "Network Boot: MAC address not found. Add 'BOOTIF= ... Replace with MAC address of the boot interface"

Since the the server is meant to install the OS on always different host machines, which MAC address am I supposed to provide here and how? Or can this message be disregarded? Is there a way to mask the message entirely?

This is the code in the ipxe boot menu for legacy boot:

:esxi67vm

echo Starting VMWare ESXi 6.7 Installation

dhcp

kernel -n mboot.c32 http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/mboot.c32

imgargs mboot.c32 -c http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/boot.cfg

boot mboot.c32 || goto failed

UEFI Boot:

Booting the installer works fine but always hangs in the last step with the message : Shutting own firmware services... Using 'simple offset' UEFI RTS mapping policy

Is there something I'm missing?

This is the code in the ipxe boot menu for uefi boot:

:esxi67vm

echo Starting VMWare ESXi 6.7 Installation

dhcp

kernel -n mboot.efi http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/mboot.efi

imgargs mboot.efi -c http://${server}/vmware/esxi67/boot.cfg

boot mboot.efi || goto failed

Dell R610 with 6.7

Hello

I have two Dell R610 servers that works well with 6.5.  I'm looking to upgrade to 6.7 on one but the CPU is not supported.  Is it possible to replace the motherboard in a R610 with one that supports the 6.7 CPU's?  I ask this since I think it may be cheaper to go this route that purchase another server.  I know this may be a Dell forum question but since this is a popular server someone may have an idea.

Thanks

Using VMware ESXi on dual SD flash cards

I'm new to using an SD card for installing ESXi.  I've always been installing directly onto hard drive as our servers all use local storage and

I'd like start looking into using an SD card and have some questions.

The server uses local storage (Raid-10).  In this case, is it really better to install ESXi onto SD?

When using an SD card, is the procedure different when patching and upgrading?

Is it even possible to pre-make the flash media with ESXi embedded so when an SD card fails, power it down then replace with pre-made SD then power it back up and restore the config?

Anyone got around the nvme performance issues in ESXi 6.7?

This is what holds us from deploying in production, but I was not able to find any meaningful recommendations yet and official Support is not an option.

LSI SAS PCI Pass-through issue

Hi,

I've added LSI SAS Megaraid 9286CV RAID card to an ESXI (6.7 with all the updates) and I passed this card through PCI Pass though. So far, so good.

At first I tried to pass this card with it's option ROM, but it seems vSphere EFI's doesn't support this functionality (booting in EFI mode just freezes the VM with the VMware logo),  so I created a RAID on the host and when booting this VM with this PCIe card, I can see and install an OS (I tried Windows server 2019)

The problem - the  VM machine cannot boot fhis RAID. When I go to the EFI BIOS I see the Windows boot manager, but trying to boot from it always fail.

So as last resort, I've installed the OS on a datastore.

My question: is this issue (unable to boot a VM from vsphere with hardware configured RAID) is known?

Thanks

Hi

Does vmware have a tool to scan the hardware and recommend driver updates or the best drivers or is this a manual process?

Thanks

Seeing latency spikes in excess of 100ms on my 2 samsung 860 evo ssd's. The throughput is fine getting 500Mbps+ on them but the vmkwarning.log has "performance has deteriorrated. I/O latency increasted from average value" warnings. This is a home server thats why I'm using regular samsung ssd's.

Bridged network in ESXi

$

Good evening,

I hope its okay to post this question which might have been posted like 1000 times already. I am new and actually I dont know what to search.

So this is the situation;:

I have a VMWare ESXi instance on a "Kimsufi" server (which is a virtual server with one IP address).

I want to create 2 - 3 virtual machines who should be able to all connect to the internet via this one IP address from the esxi host. In a Workstation I would just select "bridged networking" and it would work out of the box.

However I cant find this function anyware in ESXI. I know I can create stuff like port groups and VLANs however this still doesnt allow me to connect to the internet with the VMs.

Can someone explain me how to create a bridged network so every VM can surf via the "main" internet connection of the esxi host?

THANKS! ):

Rob

What is the affect of changing VIB Acceptance Level on a host?

Does VIB acceptance level affect whether or not a VIB can be installed or does it affect whether or not the modules from a VIB can run?

If I have a host with PartnerSupported VIB installed and I change the acceptance level afterward to "VMwareAccepted", will the modules from the PartnerSupported VIB still run or will they be disabled?

[ERROR] "EsxiTaskBase::setError " ( "96 " ) ** "Fault code 99: Connection timed out"

I am looking for what can cause this error message.

Getting this repeatedly when trying to connect to the ESXi Host.

Environment:

  • Hypervisor:VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 9484548
  • Model:PowerEdge R640
  • Processor Type:Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6134 CPU @ 3.20GHz
  • Logical Processors:32
  • NICs:9
  • Virtual Machines:104

25% of the VM's are logging back into the server as an administrator.

Then create a list of the VM's available and monitoring them.

Again, Need to know how to allow more connections or increase the necessary timeout.
