vm's on the same host

Hi,

I have two VM's that reside on the same host.  For some reason when i transfer data between the two, it seems that it leaves the esxi host, hist the l2 switch then routes back down.

Unless i am wrong, shouldnt the to vm's that are on the same host, in the same dist. switch route data directly to each other?
