VM core missing

I have a really odd issue last night. I have a NAS running on a VM of my ESXi home server and all of the sudden I lost connectivity.

After a quick investigation I found the VM powered off (!?)

Booted up again and got lots of strange errors regarding CPU unresponsive, I did not take a screenshot unfortunatelly.

Googling the errors I discover that other people have experience similar issues

rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks Ubuntu 16.10 server hanging after sometime on - Ask Ubuntu

kernel - “rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks” - jiffies - ESXi Ubuntu 16 FileServer Guest - Unix & Linux Stack Exch…

and a further investigation confirmed my worries: I had lost 1 cpu core :-o

had to power off ESXi completely and power back on again to gain it back so no permanent damage so far. It seems like recent updates of ESXi (running 6.5 for sometimes now) have somehow broke the temperature monitoring, or so I read...

I'm sorry this not to be a very specific post but I'm worried this might happen again and considering downgrading to an earlier version of 6.5 as this has never happened before.

Does anybody have anything helpful to add to this topic?

Thanks
